Gendered impact and experiences of COVID-19.
On 7th June 2022, CHAD and the Faculty of Public Health hosted the penultimate webinar (for this academic year) that focused on how women have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson, Director of the Women’s Budget Group, presented some stark statistics on the economic impact of COVID-19, such as (but not limited to) the increased burden of care during school/childcare closures, women working in sectors most affected by closures and furlough, in addition to worse deteriorations in mental health and increases in domestic violence. Dr Victoria Riley, Staffordshire University, then presented published and soon to be published data from qualitative research exploring the impact of COVID-19 restrictions on women’s pregnancy and postpartum experiences in England.
