On 18th April 203, CHAD and the Faculty of Public Health hosted the fourth in the 2022-23 webinar series.
Alex Smith, a Senior Programme Manager at Homeless Link and expert in Housing First, presented ‘Changing the narrative on Housing First’. This provided a useful grounding in how Housing First, and how it has been situated in England (primarily as a rough sleeping intervention), and posited ways in which this could change. At the time of this talk, the future political and funding environment for rough sleeping and Housing First is uncertain, with all current pilots or national funding commitments ending in 2025. Alex’s talk and following discussion were an interesting and timely stock take on where we are, and what could or should come next for Housing First in England through better integration with the wider system of support for people experiencing multiple disadvantage (and through building the evidence base on outcomes for Housing First customers).
