On the 4th October 2022, CHAD and the Faculty of Public Health hosted the first webinar of the 2022-23 series that focused on the inequitable pathways to addiction, treatment and outcome, and the punishment of addiction.
Rona Epstein, honorary Doctor of Law at Coventry University, gave an insight of failings of anti-social behaviour legislation, resulting in unnecessary and unjust incarceration of behaviour that is not ‘criminal’. Tony Mercer, a Consultant in Public Health, then provided an excellent explanation of the links between levels of socio-economic deprivation and the prevalence of addiction. Over 120 delegates posted a range of questions and comments which showed great interest and importance of this area of public health.
