Recognition and education in violence, abuse and neglect for medical and healthcare practitioners (REVAMP) is an innovative, trans European project that is free to access. It consists of online and engaging training that has been developed for medical, health and social care practitioners to enhance their recognition of and understanding of intimate partner violence and abuse (IPVA) / domestic violence and abuse (DVA), thereby improving the health outcome of those who experience this.
The REVAMP project started in September 2019, bringing together a team of doctors, nurses, clinical psychologists, social workers and educationalists from across Europe (UK, Norway, France, Greece, Iceland, Germany and Lithuania). The team shared a broad range of experience, knowledge and skills in supporting victims of intimate partner violence/domestic violence and abuse, within healthcare settings. Additionally, they shared pedagogical knowledge in curriculum development. As the project progressed, REVAMP has welcomed colleagues including IT specialists and key stakeholders, who have also contributed to the development of the training modules.
REVAMP was launched in December 2022 at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. The Staffordshire University team was led by Prof Wilf McSherry and was represented at the launch event by Prof. Liz Boath, Dr Adam Boughey and Kath Morris.
Running a transnational project is challenge enough, with different laws, perspectives and language barriers, without it taking place in the middle of a Global pandemic, where social distancing and international travel for face-to-face meetings was difficult. Prof. Liz Boath presented on the barriers faced during the lifetime of the REVAMP project and innovative solutions. A paper on this is currently being written for publication and ideas for additional modules explored.
Several free resources are available across all the partner countries: UK, Norway, France, Greece, Iceland, Germany and Lithuania. These resources and tools have enabled rapid access to agencies that provide support to victims of violence. You can find out more about the resources here.
