As the Director of CHAD, I am delighted to announce that with the appointment of Dr Chris Gidlow as our academic director, the CHAD team is now complete and ready to take on its first full year of operation. Alongside myself and Chris, there are 5 other core members of the team. We have Fiona and Rachel as our two researchers, Esther as our centre administrator and two PhD candidates, Louise and Kostas. What better way to start than with the CHAD launch on the 19th September? We are so proud that Professor Sir Michael Marmot will be giving the keynote speech at the launch. As an international expert on research into health inequalities, he is a great inspiration to the team and many of our partners. We hope to see you there! Since coming into post in early July I have been busy meeting colleagues from across Staffordshire University and a wide range of partners to discuss the vision for CHAD and our way of working. The support has been incredible. We are now looking for ways to ensure that we can continue building on these relationships and have set up the ‘Friends of CHAD scheme’ so that we can keep our friends informed of progress and invite people to contribute. Information about how to join will be available on the website soon. We will also be setting up an academic member’s network and community advisory board in the near future.
The team have been working hard to set up service evaluations and research projects in areas as diverse as, gestational diabetes, dementia and physical activity, smoking in pregnancy, and cancer and healthy lifestyles. In addition, we have been identifying and applying for new research funding opportunities, alongside revamping the website. We are all committed to carrying out high quality research that will make a tangible difference to people’s lives.
